Wallbrook Primary Academy recognised for music education excellence

Music Mark of recognition 2025 - 2026

Wallbrook Primary Academy has received Music Mark status for the 2025-26 academic year, recognising its exceptional music curriculum and enrichment programme. The award celebrates the school’s commitment to inspiring creativity, confidence and a lifelong love of music among its pupils.

The Academy offers a wide range of musical opportunities for all year groups in partnership with Dudley Performing Arts (DPA). Pupils take part in fortnightly singing assemblies, keyboard and guitar lessons, and a weekly choir that promotes opportunities to perform at community events. Specialist music focus days provide immersive learning experiences, giving children the chance to engage deeply with music.

Beyond its work with DPA, the Academy collaborates with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and the Black Country Music Hub to deliver workshops, orchestral performances and collaborative projects with other schools. A recent highlight was the Dudley Harmony Event, held as part of Children’s Mental Health Week, where around 40,000 pupils from 120 schools across the Black Country performed together. The project promoted wellbeing through music and creative connection.

School Principal Lorna McGregor said: “Music plays a central part in our pupils’ learning and development. Singing, playing instruments and performing together are regularly encouraged, helping our children to develop their confidence, creativity and sense of belonging. Being awarded Music Mark status is a wonderful endorsement of the dedication and enthusiasm that make up our whole school community.”

Dudley Performing Arts supports schools across the region, offering tuition, workshops and community events to help young people develop skills and engage in the arts. Its partnership with the Academy ensures pupils benefit from a wide range of musical experiences throughout the school year.

Founded in 2013, the Music Mark award celebrates schools and organisations that provide inclusive, accessible and high-quality music education for all children and young people.
