Wallbrook Primary Academy is celebrating after having recently been honoured with two prestigious awards: the UK Literacy Association (UKLA) Farshore Award and the Author’s Choice Award. These achievements stand as testament to the Academy’s dedication to promoting literacy excellence and igniting pupils’ passion for reading.
As a leading children’s publisher, Farshore aims to encourage more children to become enthusiastic readers by celebrating teachers, librarians and educators who successfully promote children’s reading for pleasure within and beyond the classroom. In collaboration with The Open University and the UK Literacy Association, the Farshore Reading for Pleasure Awards recognises teachers and schools that make a difference to children’s reading development.
The awards celebrate initiatives such as the Academy’s ‘Story Escapes,’ which mean regular workshops and visits from renowned children’s authors. They also continue to actively promote pupil engagement through their elected school council and pupil leadership team.
As part of the awards, the school will receive £250 worth of books and an author visit for pupils.
The Academy was also delighted to hear that their Senior Vice Principal, Miss Kiran Satti, had been recognised and awarded Community Reading Champion in the Pupil Voice and Choice category at the Farshore Reading for Pleasure Teaching Awards.
Miss Kiran Satti said: “I was absolutely thrilled to be awarded the UKLA Farshore Awards as Reading Champion. Then to be chosen as the Author’s Choice Award was an amazing accomplishment and acknowledgement of our school’s strong focus on reading. Thank you to all the families who continue to support us on our reading journey.”
This recognition serves as a resounding testament to Wallbrook Primary Academy’s unwavering enthusiasm and dedication to nurturing and inspiring the next generation of readers.
